Eight months after its launch Sliide Airtime was named as Africa’s Best App at the prestigious AppsAfrica Innovation Awards. This accolade was swiftly followed by the Oscars of the global telecoms market (the GSMA’s Mobile World Congress) naming it as the ‘Most Innovative App in the World’.

CEO, co-founder and proud South African Corbyn Munnik then found himself on the front cover of Forbes Africa after being selected as one of the magazine’s 30 under 30 African entrepreneurs.

So how did an unknown start-up go from zero to hero in such a short space of time? The power of strategic media relations, an expertly crafted story and a pro-active award and speaking engagement programme executed by the team at TelecomsPR Africa.

You can read more about the Sliide story in:

World Economic Forum Technology Pioneers

WEF logo

Every year the World Economic Forum produces a list of Technology Pioneers, companies that are the most innovative technology start-ups with the potential to transform the future of business and society.

Previous Technology Pioneers include Google (2001), Wikimedia (2008), Twitter (2010) and Kickstarter (2012).

And our clients too – OMC Power this year and VNL in 2010.

We prepared and submitted  applications on behalf of both companies whose businesses and global brands were both strengthened by acknowledgement of their achievements and vision by the World Economic Forum.

A piece about VNL and the World Economic Forum also appeared in TIME magazine which you can read here: http://content.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1948486_1948485_1948477,00.html

We are currently crafting submissions for various clients for the 2015 list.

Award season

Picking up a couple of gongs…

award photoSo here’s a photo of me at last week’s Global Telecoms Business magazine’s Annual Innovation Awards.

These prestigious awards, organised by the much-respected GTB magazine, celebrate the joint work of vendors and operators in innovative projects that better serve the telecom industry’s end customers.

I had two clients up on stage celebrating.

OMC Power and Bharti Infratel picked up an award in the most innovative consumer technology category for building micropower plants in rural India.  These power plants provide electricity as an OPEX to Bharti Infratel’s off-grid towers.

And Liquid Telecom with its partner Ekinops were named as “Best Fixed Network Infrastructure Innovation” for building Africa’s longest single span fibre links.

Congrats to all the winners – but especially those I work for!!
